Looking Back, Moving Forward: A Year of Inner Growth

Taking in the Scenery: One Final Check-In

As we move closer to the end of the year, it’s easy to focus only on the path ahead. Many of us have already begun to mentally close out this year — making plans, setting intentions, and writing down what we hope to change in the next one. While the excitement of a new year is understandable, sometimes we need to pause and acknowledge where we’ve been, and that requires looking back.

There’s something sacred about reflection — not with regret, but with reverence.  Acknowledging the moments that stretched you, softened you, and shaped you. This isn’t about reliving the past — it’s about honoring it before stepping forward.

The past is behind us and unchangeable; yet taking time to recognize the growth, strength, and challenges we’ve overcome is an important milestone. It wasn’t until this year that I truly realized how powerful that process can be. Looking back felt different — not because of what I went through, but because I finally allowed myself the space to process it. Writing, reflecting, and sharing through this blog helped me see my journey with clarity instead of judgment. That awareness has moved me closer to the person I want to become and motivated me to make meaningful changes in my life.

What This Year Taught Me

This season felt uncertain: a health scare that forced me to slow down, a long-term relationship that quietly unraveled without a clear ending. Yet, in all that stillness, I realized how much of my life I had been moving through without fully processing what was happening to me. There were no answers, only questions, and it was in asking one of those questions — Am I single? — that something shifted.

I didn’t have clarity, but I had thoughts that needed somewhere to go. Writing became the place where those thoughts landed. What started as an idea for a podcast became something more natural to me — a blog — where I could sit with hard questions, reflect honestly, and give shape to feelings I had been carrying for far too long. A voice that had been quietly waiting inside of me finally awakened.

Words That Inspire: A Podcast Turned Blog became a space where reflection turned into healing and honesty found its purpose; it provided me with a place to explore the parts of life that I often moved past — relationships that shift, boundaries that need strengthening, the complexities of parenting, and the emotional weight we carry without always realizing it.

I wrote about letting go, finding joy again, and learning when to hold space and when to step back. Each post became an opportunity to process, to heal, and to grow in real time. In sharing these reflections, I wasn’t searching for answers as much as I was learning to ask better questions, and in doing so, I began to see myself with greater clarity and compassion.

More than anything, I hoped to create a space not just for myself, but for others.  A place where one could find their voice, heal from hurt, laugh, cry, and fully experience life as it unfolds. This year was about change — and while every year brings growth, this one felt different. I chose not to let fear of the unknown keep me boxed in. Instead, I am learning to lean into whatever is ahead, trusting that I will navigate it.

This year reminded me that growth doesn’t always look loud.

That peace often comes after uncertainty.

And some answers only appeared when I stopped forcing them.

Looking back now, I see how much I’ve grown — and I am choosing to carry those lessons forward with gratitude.

Your Inner Reflection

By now, you probably know this about me—I wouldn't move forward without first creating space to pause. So, this moment is for you.

If you're willing, consider this a gentle invitation to look inward—not to evaluate or judge the year, but to notice it. To acknowledge the ways you've grown, the moments you chose peace, and the times you honored your needs instead of pushing past them.

Not everything that shapes us arrives with clarity or celebration. Sometimes growth shows up quietly—disguised as endurance, patience, or the decision to walk away. Sometimes it appears in moments when you speak up, set a boundary, or allow yourself to rest, and sometimes the most meaningful changes aren't visible at all—they're felt.

You may not have every answer. You may still be standing in uncertainty, navigating unanswered questions, and that's okay. Growth is ongoing—it's not something we complete, but something we continue to move through.

Gratitude doesn't erase the hard moments—it reframes them.

Maybe this year taught you resilience instead of perfection.

Maybe clarity came through discomfort.

Maybe you learned when to pause, when to breathe, and when to stop pushing so hard.

If nothing else, let this be a moment to recognize the version of yourself who showed up—who learned, adapted, and kept becoming, even when the path wasn't clear.

If this reflection has encouraged you to pause and look back on your own journey, I invite you to continue that reflection through the companion resource inspired by this post.

Closing the Chapter with Intention

As one chapter closes, it’s easy to feel the pressure to reinvent ourselves. A new year often comes with lists — what to change, what to fix, who to become and while growth is important, it’s worth remembering that becoming better doesn’t mean becoming someone else.

The person moving forward has already grown, already learned, and already endured. Growth isn’t about erasing the imperfect parts of ourselves — it’s about understanding them, honoring them, and allowing them to evolve. Sometimes change isn’t loud or dramatic. Sometimes it’s as simple as seeing yourself through a gentler lens.

Looking back reminded me of the times when I changed who I was for others, but it made me realize how much brighter I shined when I accepted all of me. When we stop pushing parts of ourselves away, we create room to move forward with more clarity and confidence.

Closing a chapter doesn’t require urgency. It doesn’t demand answers or resolutions. It simply asks us to release what no longer needs to be carried, to take the lessons without the weight, and to move forward with intention instead of pressure.

What comes next doesn’t rush in — it waits for us to arrive grounded.

Looking back doesn’t keep us stuck — it prepares us to move forward with clarity, compassion, and intention.

The final part of this series, Countdown to Something New, marks a hopeful shift — celebrating progress, honoring the journey, and offering a first glimpse into what’s ahead for Chase Purpose Inspires, including the upcoming store launch and 2026 affirmation tools.

As always… stay inspired and continue to chase purpose.
